Cacao as plant medicine originated in ancient Mayan and Aztec civilisations to connect with their gods, their own hearts and to deepen relationship between humans and the Earth.
Ceremonial grade cacao is vastly different to highly processed cacao powder or chocolate available in supermarkets and health food shops which have lost much of their natural nutrients through production.
This cacao is raw and unprocessed, potent and pure. Retaining the natural fats (cacao butter) to smoothly metabolise it’s high nutrient content and energetic influence.
Working with the whole plant, this cacao brings you a rich food source and powerful medicine for physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health.
Historically and sadly in much of supply today, there are still poor working and living conditions for local communities where cacao is farmed. We only share ethically sourced and fairly traded cacao and wish to support and enable local communities in the Amazon.
Tsatsayaku Association
This cacao comes from the Tsatsayaku Association in the province of Napo, Ecuador. The Association is made up of 140 Kichwa and Mestizo families from 13 different communities. Its mission is to produce and conserve ancestral cacao (Arriba Nacional/Fino de Aroma) and to provide a fair price for all of its members.
The cacao itself is grown in the traditional Kichwa farming method ‘Chakra’, which has a conscientious respect for the natural environment. The organic approach seeks to preserve biodiversity and natural resources.
Asháninka Tribe
This Cacao comes from the Asháninka tribes of the Peruvian Amazon.
The tribes work as a co-operative to ensure a fair deal for all, maintain organic farming practices, help protect their land from illegal logging and cocaine production; and to enable them to maintain and sustain their ancient culture and practices despite the influence of the modern world.
